Major Sandeep sacrifices his
life fighting for the country. People are filled with awe with his extreme
valour and supreme sacrifice. Media, NGOs and other organisations jump in
the bandwagon of honouring the family left behind. Behind these fuctions organised
to honour the family there is always a motive of getting name, fame and money
for the honouring organisations.
The war was over but the family had to fight battles
on two fronts. One of them was the media, with it's full glare. The second
front was what we call "Duniyadaari". Major Sandeep's wife, who
is expecting Sandeep's child, is torn between two families. Sandeep's and
her own.
The last hope is the younger son. But his decision
leaves the frail parents completely bewildered and heart broken.
The play unfolds the anguish and agony of mother,
father and wife of Maj Sandeep, and what they have to go through and how they
have to cope up with life after. The hard hitting play makes you sit up and
take notice of the pretences some sections of the society have for the family.
This play is not only a wholesome and thought provoking entertainment, but
also helps in conscience building towards families left behind by our martyrs.

Urmila Shirish, is written and directed by Mathura Kalauny, founder of Kalayan
Theatre Group.
